Green Lantern Feature Film gets Director and Screenwriter

As reported just over a week ago on ComicBookMovie.com, Warner Brothers has announced that Greg Berlanti will direct the upcoming superhero comic book adaptation of what I consider to be the greatest superhero ever created.  Marc Guggenheim and Michael GreenMar are reported to be co-scripting the feature with Berlanti.  The new film will follow the story of the first Silver Age and current major comic book incarnation of the Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, who was an U.S. Air Force test pilot.  The first Silver Age Green Lantern book of the same name, Green Lantern #1, was published in July/August of 1960 and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2010, which is when I suspect the the film is being targeted to be released in theaters, though 2009 is also possible, as that also will be 50 years since the Silver Age Green Lantern made his first appearance in DC Comics, Showcase #22 - #24.  There is also a Justice League of America movie in the works, and as Green Lantern was a founding member of the League, he will also be in that film -- though it is reported that the third Silver Age Green Lantern, John Stewart, an African-American former Marine who has more recently been showcased in Cartoon Network's Justice League animated series, will be the choice for the character in that film.
